Medicare rebates for seeing a psychologist
February 21st 2007 12:23
I got an email back from my prospective psychologist today. She charges $150 an hour and $130 an hour for concession/pension card holders *stares* pretty expensive huh? My old psychologist charged $80 an hour and I thought that was tight. I’ll include a bit of her email in here that explains about the Medicare rebate system, if anyone else was wondering what it is and how it works:
If you are referred through the Medicare rebate scheme by your doctor you will eligible for a rebate of $110. That means the out of pocket cost is $20 per session. Initially you can be referred for 6 sessions, but in any given 12 month period you can receive 12 sessions if your doctor thinks it is necessary. I usually ask for full payment (i.e, $130 or $150) at the end of the session and most of my other clients go straight to medicare and claim the $110 back after the session.
Hope that helps someone out there
